Hassell & Woods Bagot

DLA Piper

The story of this project isn’t that of the fit-out, but rather that of the base build. Some years prior to DLA Piper choosing 80 Collins Street as their new home, MBS Architectural were busy designing and supplying the base building ceilings for the project. A moot point some might argue, but without the relentless thirst for quality shown by the Woods Bagot team, we might be looking at something far less impressive. A push towards sustainability was a core characteristic of the design, with a chilled beam cooling and heating system being implemented...

Wardle

Geelong Gym

All good stories start with coffee, right? Well, this one’s no different. Tightly huddled around a central bar table at a Collingwood café, lattes and flat whites in hand, we were presented with a photo from the team at Wardle’s and it was put very simply to us…. ‘This is what we’re trying to achieve at Geelong Gym. Can you help?’ Had we supplied a ceiling similar to this before? Yes. But, had we supplied a ceiling exactly like this before? No. That of course didn’t deter us from answering the original question with a resounding ‘yes, we can help.’ The solution came in the shape of huge Apollo 2550 x 600mm expanded mesh sheets and a 300 x 100mm Apollo service trough – all designed in house to withstand high impacts, whilst remaining visually striking (no pun intended!). Each element was powder coated to Dulux Duratec Zeus “Matt Canvas Cloth”, creating an industrial and architecturally imposing feature.

Those who know Geelong understand just how windy it can get there. It’s close proximity to the ocean exposes it to extremely unpredictable weather. When designing the external ceiling it was paramount to select materials that were not only durable, but could withstand the corrosive sea air...
