Open Cell
CEILING SYSTEMS
Open cell ceilings introduce a strong visual rhythm to the ceiling plane, combining architectural expression with practical performance.
Defined by a grid-like structure with intentional open voids, these systems create depth while maintaining a clean and ordered appearance.
VISUAL RHYTHM
FILTERED VISIBILITY
SPATIAL DEPTH
The open cell configuration allows services to sit above the ceiling line, with elements such as lighting, sprinklers and air distribution subtly integrated through the grid as required. The result is a coordinated, uninterrupted ceiling plane that balances visibility with control.
MBS SAS800
Module Sizes

600mm x 600mm panels and 600 x 1200mm (nominal depth 40mm).
Cell sizes are available in six different configurations (mm).
Panels are designed to lay into a 15mm wide exposed grid. Once panels are laid into the grid, the grid width blends into the ceiling creating a seamless, monolithic aesthetic.
Bespoke modules and tile sizes are available, subject to the size being divisible by the available cell sizes.
Open Area

Open area is dependent on panel size.
Based on a 600mm x 600mm panel, the cell configurations will have thecorresponding open area:

International White Pre-coat as standard.
MBS SAS800 is also availablein RAL colours and other bespoke PPC finishes on request.
Access

Tiles can simply be lifted and removed from the grid.
Integrated access panels are available and can be manufactured to suit project-specific access and maintenance requirements.
Service Integration

MBS SAS800 allows fire detection and control systems, air conditioning and other services to be located within the ceiling void. Traditional decorative lighting and LEDs can be installed within single or multiple adjacent cells.
Acoustics

Acoustic infill options can be installed above the open cell structure to enhance sound absorption and improve acoustic performance in shared environments.
MBS SAS330P (Paddle)
Paddle Sizes

Paddles are rectangular as standard.
Bespoke paddle shapes and sizes available upon request.
Paddle Centres

Typically 100mm, 150mm or 200mm centres.
Bespoke centres available on request.
Finishes

Polyester powder coat in RAL 9003 White or RAL 9005 Black as standard.
Other RAL colours available upon request.

Open cell ceilings introduce structure, openness and visual rhythm to the ceiling plane, offering a highly functional solution for spaces where service coordination and architectural clarity are key.
Seamless Service Integration:
High open area percentages allow services such as lighting, sprinklers and air distribution to sit within the ceiling zone, filtering through without disrupting the overall ceiling plane.
Accessible Ceiling Zone:
The open grid structure provides clear access to the plenum, simplifying maintenance, upgrades and ongoing building services management.
Acoustic Flexibility:
The exposed plenum allows for acoustic treatments to be integrated above the ceiling, supporting improved sound control in open and shared environments.
Airflow & Environmental Performance:
Open cell systems promote natural air movement through the ceiling, supporting ventilation strategies and contributing to overall building efficiency.
Design Versatility:
A range of cell sizes, depths, materials and finishes enables designers to control openness, scale and ceiling rhythm to suit the architectural intent.
Visual Rhythm & Order:
The repeating grid structure creates a consistent ceiling language, helping to organise complex service zones into a clean and cohesive architectural expression.
