480 Swan Street

Commercial

At the heart of the building is a defining interior gesture shaped by Expanded Mesh. From the moment you enter the lobby, nearly 750 square metres of mesh ceiling panels establish a strong architectural presence. Suspended using a proprietary double hook ceiling system with a concealed grid, the installation reads as a seamless, floating plane. The effect is both industrial and refined, introducing texture while maintaining clarity.

The open weave of the Expanded Mesh allows light and volume to move freely through the space. Its lightweight structure enhances transparency, contributing to the lobby’s airy character while still delivering a bold visual statement. The ceiling does not close the space down. Instead, it amplifies its height and openness.

A pivotal moment within the design occurs at the central staircase and balustrade, where the mesh panels transition from horizontal ceiling to vertical surface.

This continuous shift from overhead plane to rising wall element draws the eye upward, guiding movement through the building’s volume. The transition is deliberate and sculptural, reinforcing the lobby as a unified architectural composition.

This interplay between ceiling and wall demonstrates the versatility of Expanded Mesh as both a lining and spatial device. What begins as a ceiling evolves into an enveloping feature, anchoring the arrival space and defining its identity.

Finished in White RAL 9003, the system maintains a clean, restrained palette that supports the building’s broader architectural language. The result is a cohesive and confident intervention that transforms a functional lobby into a sculptural focal point, elevating the overall experience of arrival.
