Marvel Stadium

Hospitality

Set high within Marvel Stadium, the Skyline Room presents itself as a space defined by atmosphere, outlook and precision. Recently reimagined into a premium hospitality venue, it balances expansive city views with a carefully curated interior, creating an environment that feels both elevated and immersive. Designed by Grimshaw and delivered by John Holland with Arc Plastering, the project brings together material richness and spatial clarity to establish one of Melbourne’s most distinctive event settings.

The defining gesture lies overhead. A bespoke curved metal raft ceiling introduces a sculptural layer that frames the room while reinforcing its sense of occasion. Fabricated from 3 millimetre aluminium and anodised in Champagne Gold, the ceiling carries a subtle lustre that shifts with light, enhancing the surrounding palette without overpowering it. The finish is refined and controlled, contributing to an atmosphere that feels considered and cohesive.

Form plays an equally important role. The primary raft sections are shaped into a U profile, creating a series of suspended elements that float within the volume of the space. These forms are carefully aligned, with discreet connectors ensuring precision at every junction, allowing the ceiling to read as a continuous composition rather than a collection of parts. The result is a clean, uninterrupted plane that reinforces the architectural intent.

These forms are carefully aligned, with discreet connectors ensuring precision at every junction, allowing the ceiling to read as a continuous composition rather than a collection of parts. The result is a clean, uninterrupted plane that reinforces the architectural intent.

This language extends further through the introduction of a 10 metre S shaped ceiling element, designed to respond to changes in level across the room. Rather than concealing these transitions, the ceiling expresses them, using curvature to soften shifts in height and maintain a sense of flow throughout the interior. It is a move that adds both visual interest and spatial coherence, ensuring the ceiling remains engaged with the architecture at every point.

Across the 250 square metre space, the ceiling works in dialogue with full height glazing that opens the room to the Melbourne skyline. Together, they create a layered experience where interior and exterior are closely connected. The ceiling frames these views, directing focus outward while still holding the room with a strong internal identity.

The result is a space that feels composed and elevated, where material, form and light are carefully balanced. Through bespoke detailing and a clear architectural vision, the Skyline Room achieves a level of refinement that enhances both the experience of the space and its connection to the city beyond.
