
For more than three decades, peregrine falcons have made 367 Collins Street their home. When Curzon + Partners reimagined the building’s lobby, that connection became the starting point for an extraordinary architectural gesture - translating the rhythm, grace and movement of flight into a sweeping suspended ceiling installation.
Spanning the lobby and arrival spaces, the installation transforms thousands of individual aluminium tubes into a single fluid composition. Working alongside FDC Construction & Fit-Out and Esjay Commercial Plastering, MBS Architectural collaborated with SAS International to bring the ambitious concept into built form.
Across approximately 1,200 square metres, 3,136 individual tubes and more than 7,354 linear metres of material come together to create a ceiling that appears to shift and move as you travel beneath it.
The 50mm aluminium tubes were custom curved to form the fluid geometry of the design. Rather than following a conventional flat or linear ceiling language, the tubes rise, fall and transition across the installation, creating changes in depth and perspective. From one position, the ceiling reads as a series of disciplined lines; from another, those same lines gather into a dynamic sculptural form.
Materiality adds another dimension. Each aluminium tube is finished in a sublimated timber effect, bringing the visual warmth and character of timber to the precision and versatility of aluminium. Against the scale of the lobby, the finish softens the installation while allowing its geometry to remain the dominant architectural expression.
