AMP’s fit-out is a project driven by perception — a space where the ceiling is not simply seen, but experienced in motion. Designed by Hassell and delivered by Buildcorp, the 1200m² workplace explores how subtle shifts in geometry can transform a familiar system into something far more dynamic. The ambition was clear: to recreate the directional quality of expanded mesh using a linear aluminium batten system, without compromising the clarity and control that battens provide.
Achieving this required a departure from convention. Traditional batten systems are typically installed perpendicular to their supporting structure, resulting in a consistent and predictable ceiling plane. Here, that logic was reworked. In collaboration with our manufacturing partner, a bespoke bracket was developed to allow each aluminium batten to be installed in a cranked position at a precise 30° angle. This single move redefined the entire ceiling, introducing a directional quality that shifts as the user moves through the space.
The effect is immediate yet subtle. Sightlines into the ceiling plenum open and close depending on position, creating a constantly evolving visual field. It is a ceiling that responds to movement, offering moments of transparency and concealment in equal measure. Despite this complexity, the overall reading remains controlled — a consistent linear rhythm that anchors the space while allowing variation to emerge through perspective.
