Kokoda Office Fit-Out

Commercial

Designed by Carr in collaboration with Studio McCue, and delivered by Plan Group, the office blends the sophistication of residential architecture with the practical demands of a modern commercial setting. The ceiling solution plays a quiet yet defining role in shaping this atmosphere.

Working closely with SAS International and Aflux Interiors, we developed a custom concealed-grid mesh ceiling system that reinforces the refined material palette and measured spatial rhythm of the interior. The design called for texture without visual noise, depth without heaviness.

A defining feature of the project is the use of SAS International’s HM63 hexagonal mesh, marking the first time this distinctive profile has been utilised within a commercial project in Australia. With its tight, directional aperture and 63% open area, the HM63 mesh creates a ceiling plane that shifts subtly with movement and light. From certain angles it feels open and porous. From others, more solid and grounded. This interplay adds dimension and visual interest while remaining aligned with the soft, natural tones of the workspace.

Installed within the SAS 200 concealed grid system, the mesh panels maintain a clean, seamless appearance. The concealed grid ensures the ceiling reads as a continuous, uninterrupted surface, allowing the material to take centre stage without distraction.

Finished in Interpon D1000 Vivica Nobel Silver Pearl Satin GY119A, the ceiling introduces a refined metallic softness that complements the surrounding textures and finishes. The result is a restrained yet expressive architectural layer that supports the overall hospitality-inspired environment.

The completed space demonstrates how adaptable proprietary systems, when paired with thoughtful design collaboration, can achieve highly customised outcomes. The ceiling does not dominate the interior. Instead, it quietly enhances it, reinforcing Kokoda’s enduring focus on quality, detail and craft.
