NAB Fit-Out

Commercial

NAB’s occupation of 405 Bourke Street is less a fit-out and more a transformation at scale — a project that redefines what it means to inhabit an entire building. Spanning 37 floors and over 60,000m², the undertaking moves beyond typical workplace design into something far more complex, where consistency, coordination and clarity must be maintained across an immense and ever-evolving canvas.

Working alongside Hassell and Multiplex, the process became one of continual alignment, where every decision carried weight and every detail contributed to a much larger whole.

At this scale, there is no such thing as an isolated change. A shift in finish, a refinement in perforation, or an adjustment in detailing has a ripple effect across floors, systems and trades.

Navigating this level of complexity required a close and collaborative relationship with the design team — one where ideas were shared openly and challenges resolved collectively. It is within this environment that the project found its rhythm, allowing design intent to remain intact while adapting to the realities of delivery.

Materiality plays a defining role throughout the building, with a diverse palette of ceiling and wall systems responding to the varied functions within the workplace.

NAB Fit-Out

Occupying an entire city-scale building, NAB’s workplace unfolds as a highly coordinated environment where scale is met with clarity and control. The design balances consistency with variation, allowing different spaces to respond to their specific functions while remaining part of a unified whole. Through the careful integration of multiple material systems and a strong emphasis on collaboration, the project achieves a sense of cohesion that extends across all levels. It is a workplace defined by its ability to manage complexity without losing focus, creating an environment that feels both expansive and resolved, where every layer contributes to a clear and enduring architectural vision.

Materiality plays a defining role throughout the building, with a diverse palette of ceiling and wall systems responding to the varied functions within the workplace.

Mineral fibre ceilings provide a consistent and high-performing foundation across large areas, supporting acoustic control and spatial clarity. Aluminium tube ceilings introduce a lighter, more expressive layer, creating rhythm and openness within key zones.

Perforated timber ceilings and wall panels bring warmth and texture, balancing the more technical elements with a natural, human quality. Together, these systems form a cohesive language that shifts subtly from space to space, maintaining continuity while allowing for variation.

Installed by Expoconti, the execution reflects the scale and ambition of the project. Coordination between systems is seamless, ensuring transitions feel intentional and resolved rather than imposed. The result is a workplace that operates as a unified environment, despite its size — a space where performance, aesthetics and functionality are carefully aligned.

NAB’s fit-out ultimately demonstrates the power of collaboration at scale. It is a project shaped by shared thinking and disciplined delivery, where complexity is not simplified, but managed with precision. The outcome is a building that feels considered at every level — an environment designed not just to accommodate, but to endure.
