Prahran High School rises as a confident response to the challenges of contemporary education — a vertical campus where space is not expanded outward, but carefully layered upward.
Designed by Gray Puksand and delivered by Kane, the project embraces a dynamic architectural language, where sharp angles and intersecting planes carve through the building, creating a sense of movement and connection across its 7,500m² footprint. It is a school that feels less like a series of rooms and more like a continuous spatial experience.
Within this vertical framework, the ceiling becomes a critical surface — not simply to enclose, but to reinforce the architectural intent. A carefully composed combination of perforated metal tiles, rippling Coruline profiles and linear Spac Deckform elements introduces variation, rhythm and depth across the ceiling planes. Each system plays a distinct role, yet together they form a cohesive language that responds directly to the geometry of the building.
The perforated metal tiles, set out in 1200 x 600 modules, provide a consistent and controlled base, their subtle texture contributing to both visual clarity and acoustic performance. In contrast, the Coruline profiles introduce movement — their 160mm wide rippling form catching light and shadow, softening the harder edges of the architecture while adding a sense of flow.
