Working alongside Hot Black, MPA, and Roxy Interiors, we developed a custom ceiling solution that responds directly to the design intent while pushing the boundaries of what a modular system can achieve. The result is the SAS 330P Paddle Ceiling, a system that has since evolved into a fully realised proprietary offering, shaped through collaboration and built for future application.

At its core, the paddle ceiling introduces a new level of flexibility for designers. Through variations in paddle size, orientation, density, depth and colour, the system allows for a highly tailored ceiling expression. In this project, 100 × 100 mm paddles set at 100 mm centres create a disciplined yet textured overhead plane, bringing rhythm and visual interest into the space without overwhelming the broader interior palette. Finished in a two-tone combination of Surreal Effects APO Grey Ripple Gloss and Grey Hammer Ripple Gloss, the ceiling captures light in subtle, shifting ways. The interplay between the finishes enhances depth and movement, giving the surface a tactile quality that evolves throughout the day.

Beyond its visual impact, performance was equally important. With an NRC of 0.55, the system contributes to acoustic comfort, supporting the varied ways the space is used. This is particularly evident in the interconnected front-of-house and breakout areas, which can transition into a town hall setting for weekly company gatherings.

Here, the ceiling acts as both a unifying element and a backdrop for activity, helping to define the space without constraining it. Efficiency and constructability were considered from the outset. Paddles are pre-assembled onto 1200 mm carrier rails, allowing for streamlined installation while maintaining precise alignment and consistency across the ceiling plane.

Craft and collaboration are evident throughout the project. Alongside the ceiling system, bespoke elements and local partnerships contribute to a layered, considered environment that reflects a shared commitment to quality. Sustainability also underpins the project, with the fit-out targeting a 6 Star Green Star outcome, ensuring long-term performance aligns with design ambition.

The result is a workplace that feels purposeful, adaptable and refined. It demonstrates how a ceiling, when treated as a design driver rather than a background element, can shape the identity and experience of a space.
