Collingwood Park Secondary School (QLD)

Education

Collingwood Park Secondary School in Queensland is a project that demonstrates the value of restraint — where performance, clarity and consistency take precedence over unnecessary complexity. Designed by Lifestyle Interiors and delivered by Badge Construction, the 6,000m² fit-out responds to the practical demands of a contemporary learning environment, where scale must be matched with reliability and control.

Within spaces designed to accommodate large groups of students, the challenge is not only spatial, but acoustic. Classrooms and shared learning areas require an environment that supports concentration, reduces distraction and allows communication to remain clear. The solution comes in the form of mineral fibre acoustic ceiling tiles, paired with a 24mm exposed T-Bar suspension grid. It is a system that prioritises function, yet delivers a clean and consistent visual outcome across the expansive ceiling plane.

The strength of this approach lies in its quiet performance. With an NRC of 0.70, the ceiling effectively absorbs sound, reducing reverberation and creating a more balanced acoustic environment. In spaces where multiple conversations and activities occur simultaneously, this level of control is essential. The ceiling does not draw attention to itself, yet it plays a critical role in shaping how the space is experienced — supporting focus, clarity and overall wellbeing.

Visually, the system maintains a disciplined simplicity. The exposed grid introduces a subtle structure, while the uniformity of the tiles ensures the ceiling reads as a cohesive and uninterrupted surface. It is a solution that allows the architecture and activity below to take focus, reinforcing the idea that well-resolved systems often operate in the background.

At this scale, delivery becomes as important as design. The installation required careful staging, with materials delivered in coordinated phases to align with the broader construction programme. The contracting team maintained momentum throughout, ensuring ceilings were completed efficiently and in line with key milestones. The result is a project that balances performance with practicality, delivering consistency without compromise.

Collingwood Park Secondary School ultimately highlights the importance of dependable systems in large-scale education environments. It is a project where the ceiling does exactly what it should — providing the foundation for spaces that feel calm, functional and ready to support the demands of learning.
