KPMG Fit-Out (QLD)

Fit-Out

KPMG’s Queensland fit-out is a study in controlled intensity — a space where bold architectural moves are carefully measured against the realities of budget and buildability.

Designed by COX Brisbane and delivered by FDC, the 550m² workplace sets out to create an environment that carries both drama and discipline, where visual impact is achieved not through excess, but through precision.

From the outset, the ambition was clear: craft a space that feels striking without becoming overwhelming. The ceiling plays a central role in this narrative. Using the Apollo Aluminium Batten system, the design introduces a strong linear language that defines the spatial experience from above. At 100mm deep profiles set tightly at 25mm centres, the battens create a dense, rhythmic ceiling plane — one that draws the eye while maintaining a sense of cohesion across the interior.

What elevates the system beyond a standard application is its adaptability. The ability to fine-tune batten spacing allowed the design team to carefully calibrate density, balancing aesthetic intent with material efficiency.

KPMG Fit-Out (QLD)

Within KPMG’s Queensland workplace, the design strikes a deliberate balance between visual intensity and measured restraint, creating an environment that feels both dynamic and controlled. The space is defined by a strong, consistent language that enhances spatial clarity while supporting everyday functionality. Through the careful manipulation of rhythm, proportion and light, the interiors achieve a sense of depth without relying on excess, proving that impactful outcomes can be realised through precision rather than scale. It is a workplace shaped by thoughtful decision-making, where design intent and practical constraints align to produce a cohesive and enduring result.

This flexibility became instrumental in resolving the tension between design ambition and budget constraints, enabling COX Brisbane to shape a ceiling that feels rich and deliberate without unnecessary excess.

Finished in Dulux Duralloy White Matt, the battens maintain a restrained presence, allowing form and shadow to do the work rather than relying on colour. The result is a ceiling that shifts subtly throughout the day, its depth and rhythm revealed through changing light conditions.

Acoustic treatment, handled at the slab level, ensures the space performs as required without interrupting the visual clarity of the batten system.

Installed by Citibuild, the execution reflects a high level of coordination, ensuring the density and alignment of the battens remain consistent throughout. KPMG’s fit-out ultimately demonstrates that impactful design does not need to be loud. Through careful control of proportion, spacing and material, the project achieves a confident architectural expression — one that feels both considered and composed.
